Unit 8440-1026 was built by Woodward as part of the SPM-D21 / PSVX synchronizer. SPM synchronizers are designed to be integrated into industrial generator units, which are three-phase AC units that are already equipped with speed control units and voltage regulators. The two components do not need to be Woodward models, just similar setup and installation methods.

The 8440-1026 uses microprocessor technology and is equipped with a range of operating functions for reliable and flexible operation. The SPM-D21 model, such as this one, provides automatic frequency as well as voltage and phase matching used by the controller's analog or discrete output signals.

It is important to note that when the controller is used as a synchronizer with GCB and MCB operations, synchronization occurs separately.
