Models 8440-1023 of the SPM-D21 series are manufactured by Woodward Inc. Development and production. These Woodward SPM-D21 modules are designed as microprocessor-based synchronizers and have been developed for integration into industrial generator systems equipped with automatic frequency function matching, phase matching and voltage matching. The 8440-1023 unit combines the synchronization function of a three-phase alternator.

The 8440-1023 includes a generator circuit breaker (GCB) unit, power circuit breaker (MCB), load and power factor control module, and generator and power protection system. The 8440-1023 is designed to synchronize GCB and MCB separately. Phase matching and slip frequency synchronization can be performed simultaneously with voltage matching. The unit is equipped with a two-phase sensing capability for the generator system, common bus and power circuit breaker. Parallel operation of mains includes active power RMS power calculation and detection, as well as active power control. There are also power factor functions, controls, and set points for selected parameters.

The 8440-1023 is equipped with discrete outputs that allow the unit to increase and decrease the output of speed, load, and voltage and power factor.
