The unit is 8440-1301 and is classified as a single circuit breaker synchronizer unit of the Woodward SPM-D10/X model. These synchronizers have been developed for installation in three-phase alternator systems that include a compatible engine speed control unit and an automatic voltage regulator. This includes Woodward Speed Control and voltage regulators as well as other compatible brands. Models 8440-1301 are equipped with dual synchronization.

When the device matches the generator's voltage intake, the operator can phase match or slip frequency sync with the 8440-1301. There are four user-selectable Settings for the device that adjusts the parameters. They are "Run," "Check," "Close," and "Allow." Physically, the 8440-1301 is equipped with a protective housing with an Apranorm-type housing, IP42 for the front (with an insulating surface) and IP24 for the rear.
