The triple I/O bus transfers data between the I/O module and the main processor at 375 kilobits per second. The triple I/O bus runs along the bottom of the backplane. Each channel of the I/O bus runs between one of the three main processors and the corresponding channel on the I/O module. A set of three I/O bus cables can be used to extend the I/O bus between chassis.

The COMM bus runs between the main processor and the communication module at a speed of 2 megabits per second. The power supply of the chassis is distributed on two independent power guide rails in the center of the backplane. Each module in the case receives power from two power rails via dual power regulators. There are four power regulators on each input and output module: one for channels A, B and C, and one for the status indicator LED indicator.

Each I/O module transmits signals to or from the field through its associated field terminal components. The two positions in the case are connected together as a logical slot. The first position holds the active I/O module and the second position holds the hot standby I/O module. The terminal cable is connected to the top of the backplane.
