The MV146-MCM is a single-slot module that can be mounted directly onto the 1746 backplane. This module receives valid configuration when mounted to a local rack or extension rack. It does not support installation to remote I/O racks. It comes with one (1) RJ45 commissioning and configuration port with a DB-9M cable and operates only with the RS-232 standard. It also has two (2) RJ45 RS-232/422/485 application combo ports. In addition, the MV146-MCM is also equipped with

Module status, backplane transmission status, application status, serial activity, and error status leds.

The MV146-MCM enables any compatible SLC 500 processor to easily interface with Modbus-enabled devices and host instruments. It acts as an I/O module between the MODBUS network and the SLC 500 baseboard. When data is exchanged between modules and processors over the MODBUS network, it performs asynchronous data transfers and provides a register size of 5000 words. The communication adapter specifically supports foreign equipment data concentrators, pipelines and offshore platforms, food processing, mining, pulp and paper, and SCADA communication applications.

The module supports ladder logic, which is used to set the data transfer between the processor and the module. Configuration data can be created from the configuration text file downloaded to the MV146-MCM Modbus master/slave interface module.
