The GE excitation power board DS3800DEPB1A1A has one 20-pin ribbon cable and five 10-pin connectors. The GE LCI exciter control board DS3800DECA1B1B1A1A is also equipped with 4 terminals for adding components and 2 trimmer resistors.

The 20-pin ribbon cable cannot be removed from the board. Instead, it is permanently connected to the motherboard and serves as the main connection for the drive. It is 6 inches in length and is designed to connect to a connector located inside the drive. The command signal is transmitted in 20 separate wires. Some signals are received by the board, while other signals are sent from the board to other boards and devices.

When removing the motherboard from the drive, several steps must be taken to protect the 20-pin ribbon cable. First, disconnect any 10-pin cables and temporarily move them out of the way. Then, grab the 20-pin connector with one hand and gently unplug it. Use one hand to remove the four screws that hold the motherboard in the rack. Use your other hand to hold the board in place.
