The GE Network Controller board DS3800HLND is designed for quick installation in drives. The board has a modular connector at one end and a fixed rod at the other end. The GE network controller board DS1HLND also has 3,800 red indicator leds visible from the front of the board. The board also features three jumpers and eight erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM) modules.

The GE Network controller board DS3800HLND is also equipped with a 40-pin connector and a 20-pin connector. The connectors can be accessed from between the holding rods on the front of the motherboard. The EPROM module stores the code that the board uses to process instructions. It consists of firmware and instruction code. After downloading, the updated code can be stored on the module. However, the code that comes with the board at the factory is usually not updated, but used for processing.

Modules can be removed from the motherboard because they are plugged into a socket. The socket is embedded in the circuit board. To remove the module from the slot, find the space between the module and the slots at either end of the module. Insert the screwdriver between the socket and the module. Lift the screwdriver to release the module. Do the same on the other side of the module. Prepare an ESD bag. Immediately place the module in the bag and store it for future use. Modules may be damaged by exposure to static buildup.
