FPGA可以把信息传回到运行LabVIEWRT的浮点处理器以进行计算和数据记录和通信。由于有金属外壳和传导式制冷，该控制器非常适合用于严酷的环境。

由于金属工业系统需要冷轧钢厂生产出统一厚度的钢条(以钢卷的形式),为此这些轧钢厂需要由对生产的钢条规格进行监控的高可靠闭环控制系统。这就是本PAC应用的设计任务。

CompactRIO is a new repeatable embedded system based on LabVIEWFPGA and LabVIEW real-time technology.

The CompactRIO system uses an FPGA chip with 3 million gates to control modular digital and analog Io. These FPGA chips can run code embedded in the chip, which has a digital cycle rate of up to MHz, and an analog cycle rate of 150kHz.

The FPGA can pass information back to the floating point processor running LabVIEWRT for computation and data logging and communication. Thanks to its metal housing and conductive refrigeration, the controller is ideal for use in harsh environments.

Because the metal industry system requires cold rolled mills to produce steel bars of uniform thickness (in the form of steel coils), for this purpose these mills require highly reliable closed-loop control systems that monitor the specifications of the steel bars produced. This is the design task of this PAC application.
