The input/output module is the excuse for a programmable controller PLC to be connected to industrial production equipment or industrial production processes. On-site input signals, such as button switches, stroke switches, limit switches, and sensing output switching or analog quantities (pressure, flow, temperature, voltage, current), are sent to the PLC through the input module.

Because these signal levels are various, and the information processed by the programmable controller CPU can only be the standard level, the input module also needs to convert these signals into digital signals that the PLC can accept and process.

The role of the input module is to receive the digital signal processed by the central processor and convert it into the control signal that can be received by the field executive parts to drive the actuator such as solenoid valve, light display, motor and so on.
