ABB's IRC5 control cabinet can be configured with PROFINET networking, options 888-2 and 888-3, and no additional hardware is required - there are two spare Ethernet ports on the IRC5 computer for connection, namely LAN3 and WAN.

888-2: Supports the control cabinet as a PROFINET master or slave station. A maximum of 50 devices can be configured and a total of 12,000 I/OS can be supported. The configuration is required by using Profinet-IO Configurator Professional.

888-3: Support control cabinet as PROFINET slave station, up to 2048 DIO, PROFINET version V2.2. You need to configure the PROFINET device using the GSMDL file.

Like DeviceNet, ABB also offers AnyBus-based PROFINET boards that can only be used as slave stations, with option number 840-3, material number and model number 3HAC031670-001 and DSQC688, respectively, which are usually used to configure IP address segments other than LAN3 or WAN.
