This repeater has a transmission rate of up to 12 megabits per second and supports circular redundancy technology. Optical power can also be continuously monitored via signal strength output, which can be integrated into the process control system. As a result, the fast and highly available Profibus network can be easily expanded to explosion-proof Zone 1. ATEX approvals have been applied for Zones 1, 21, 2 and 22.

HIPER-Ring technology ensures that in the event of a failure such as an optical fiber break, the FO repeater automatically switches to another ring segment without a measurable interruption, i.e., within 0 milliseconds, thus guaranteeing continuous high network availability. The failure of the original connection cable is immediately reported to the process control system via the non-potential relay contact. All connections are designed as EEX-e terminals.

The repeater has two optical and one electrical ports and a redundant 24-volt power supply. Stainless steel housing or plastic housing with or without an observation window can be installed in explosion-proof Zone 1. If the repeater will be installed in a common housing with other devices, the optical function module may also be used without the housing, with its permission. Since the OZD Profi G12 ATEX 1 offers the same functionality as other devices in the OZD Profi product range, the device is fully compatible with standard components in Zone 2.
