PLC的硬件主要由中央处理器(CPU)、存储器、输入单元、输出单元、通信接口、扩展接口、电源等部分组成。

其中CPU是PLC的核心，按照系统程序赋予的功能，指挥PLC有条不紊地进行工作;

存储器主要用来存放系统程序、用户程序及工作数据;输入单元和输出单元是连接现场输入/输出设备与CPU之间的接口电路，通过输入接口可以检测被控对象的数据，以这些数据作为PLC对被控对象进行控制的依据，同时PLC又通过输出接口将处理结果送给被控制对象，以实现控制目的;通信接口用于与监视器、打印机、其它PLC、编程器、上位机等外设连接;

扩展接口用于连接扩展单元;PLC配有开关电源，以供内部电路使用。
