PM783F 3BDH000364R0002 Flash resides on the VMIVME-7750 as the secondary IDE bus master (the secondary IDE bus slave is not assignable). The "Standard CMOS Settings" screen of the Phoenix BIOS is set to "Automatic".

In the Peripheral Settings screen, the secondary PCI IDE interface is enabled to enable the flash memory to work properly. See Appendix C for more details. Figure 3-1 depicts the configuration possibilities of a typical system, which includes the VMIVME-7750 with resident flash, a hard disk connected to the main IDE interface, and a floppy disk drive connected to the floppy disk interface.

The PM783F features an optional onboard compact flash mass storage system capacity of up to 512 MB. The flash drive appears to the user as a smart ATA (IDE) disk drive with a "spinning media" IDE hard drive. The VMIVME-7750 BIOS includes the following options: Allow the board to boot from flash memory. Flash memory performs the same as standard IDE hard drives. Reading and writing to this device are performed using the same method, using DOS command line entries or a file manager residing in the operating system of choice.
