However, it differs slightly by using a "proxy" interface, which is a module that sits between PROFINET and the underlying bus. The data path through the agent is completely transparent, and instruments on the fieldbus look like remote IO directly connected to the PROFINET controller.

This makes it very easy to configure, maintain, and manage automated systems from any part of the enterprise.
