ABB has started commissioning the System 800xA control system at Dannemora's new sorting facility in east-central Sweden. Commercial raw ore production began in early April; ABB has provided a complete control system that is at the heart of the sorting plant and is currently in trial operation while the plant is also in production.

The control system is designed in close collaboration with the customer, and the system's interface, display, and functionality are fine-tuned in collaboration with the operators who will use it. The user-friendly and reliable 800xA control system will provide operators with the most detailed overview of the process while minimizing the manual operation required. The entire sorting plant is operated by four people per shift, one of whom is from ABB.

During the trial, ABB used broadband connections to provide fast, professional support, saving travel time and expenses. This remote access capability allows ABB to download new programs and debug systems from up to 500 kilometers away. "During commissioning, we will fine-tune the control system to achieve maximum output. This was done in close cooperation with Dannemora and its machinery suppliers, "said Lars Henriksson, project manager for ABB's Mining and Minerals division in Sweden. The new concentrator is expected to produce 2 million tons of finished products per year, of which 60% will be bulk ore and 40% will be fine ore. This will require the processing of approximately 3.3 million tonnes of raw ore per year.
