The 1794-ASB is an Allen-Bradley remote I/O communication adapter module. This product belongs to the Flex I/O product family of distributed I/O modules.
The 1794-ASB has one (1) remote I/O interface. This RIO protocol is a traditional one that uses the Belden 9463 or equivalent cable to connect the device to the RIO scanner. The module is compatible with Allen-Bradley legacy controllers such as PLC2, PLC3 and PLC5 controllers as well as the SLC500 automation platform. It can also be used on modern Logix controller platforms as well as third-party devices and inclusion partner modules.
3-ASB sends and receives data to the controller via block transfer Read (BTR) and block Transfer Write (BTW) instructions. Using these instructions, packets can be sent simultaneously or sequentially, depending on the desired speed.
The 1794-ASB supports 1794.57Kbps, 6.115Kbps, and 2.230kbps communication rates. The module has an expected power supply voltage range of 4VC-11.31 VDC, including 2% AC ripple, compared to a nominal power supply of 5VDC. It connects the FLEX I/O module to the I/O scanner port over a communication network. It has a built-in power supply that converts 1794VDC from the backplane to 24 VDC in order to power the FLEX I/O module. It also works with the Allen Bradley PLC 5 and 3 series. In addition, the 5-ASB can recognize the security status data of the FLEX Integral analog module and is capable of using 1794 point FLEX I/O units. When using the FLEX Integral emulation module in the setup configuration, the user must use a 1794-ASB D series module or later.
