The Allen-Bradley 1756-IB16 is a ControlLogix I/O module. The 16-point DC input modules (each set of 8 points) can be connected to the 1756 ControlLogix chassis. The compatible removable terminal housing (RTB) is the 1756-TBNH 20-bit NEMA RTB and the 1756-TBSH 20-bit spring clip RTB. Note that the user should have a compatible RTB ready before installation, and the 1756 case and power supply should be installed and grounded.


The 1756-IB16 module has a nominal input voltage of 24 volts DC, while the voltage class is 12/24 volts DC perfusion. Its operating voltage range is 10 to 31.2 volts DC, and the total power of the backplane is 0.56W. The current consumption at 5.1 V DC is 100 mA. At 24 V, the current consumption is 2 mA. The module has a maximum surge current peak of 250 mA and decays to 22% in 37 milliseconds without activation. Its isolation voltage is 250 volts continuous. The module has a power consumption of about 60 watts at 5.1 degrees Celsius and a heat dissipation of 17.39 BTU/ hour. The conduction current of the module ranges from 0.10 mA at 2 V DC to 2 mA at 10.31 V DC. In the off state, it has a maximum voltage of 5V and a maximum current of 1.5mA. The module has an input delay of up to 1 ms hardware delay plus a user-configurable filter time (0, 1 or 2 ms). It has a maximum hardware latency of 2 milliseconds, plus user-configurable filtering times (0, 1, 2, 9 or 18 milliseconds).


Allen-Bradley 1756-IB16 is a DC perfusion current input module that operates at a nominal input voltage of 24VDC. The module is used for 24VDC input signals, but can still be used for AC input voltage tage, provided the appropriate plug-in circuits or components are installed.


The module supports single-stand, standalone controller configurations for smaller and less critical applications. It can also be used for larger applications that involve a higher degree of criticality, such as remote I/O systems or distributed control systems (DCS).


The module can be used as a discrete input module for any ControlLogix configuration, even Allen-Bradley's PlantPaX DCS platform. There is almost no limit to the number of installations of this module. The number of instances or installations depends on the memory capacity of the processor and the physical chassis or available slots used.


1756-IB16 Uses detachable terminal locks to provide a modular way of terminating input signals. It can be replaced with the RTB part number 1756-TBNH 1756-TBSH. It has a state-changing property that can be configured by the user and is useful in applications where immediate action is required when an input signal changes to a defined state. State change (COS) bypasses the processor's normal scan cycle for faster logical execution.
