The 1747-L552 is an SLC 500 processor in the SLC 5/05 subclass. This processor is a single-slot processor that connects directly to the backplane of any SLC 500 chassis. The processor integrates an RS232 port for point-to-point and Ethernet communication for networking applications and synchronous data exchange.


The processor is well suited for medium to large scale applications, with a focus on integrating machine-level areas to the enterprise level. The processor also provides practical integration capabilities for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) requirements.


Unlike other processors under the SLC 500 platform, these processors include DH485, Data Highway Plus (DH+), Remote I/O, and DeviceNet. These communication protocols are proprietary and require dedicated modules or third-party converters and gateways for vertical integration. With embedded Ethernet, the processor can be vertically integrated out of the box.


The RS232 communication port is ideal for human-machine interface (HMI) communication, and is usually installed on the same panel where the programmable logic controller (PLC) processor is installed, due to the limited range coverage of the RS232.


The large memory capacity of the 1747-L552 has an IO capacity of 4096 inputs and outputs, allowing the processor to control multiple small processes or a single large process. System criticality must be considered to properly plan which processes can be included in the same processor. It also supports the implementation of remote I/O topologies to allow strategic installation of I/O modules.


The module has a maximum user memory of 32K words, of which 28K words are for data or programs and 4K words are for user data. The processor also has an absolute maximum number of I/ OS for both input and output, which are 4096. It also has a local simulation of up to 480 points. The processor supports up to one hundred and seven (107) programming instructions and allows the installation of up to three (3) cases with up to thirty (30) slots. The processor's maximum input current is 1A at 5 volts DC and 0A at 24 volts DC. Its typical program scan time is 0.9 ms /K, I/O scan time is 0.225 ms, and XIC bit execution time is 0.37 μs. Depending on the power load, the processor has a program scan hold time of 20 milliseconds to 3 seconds after power failure. It operates with a vibration of 0.015 inches, a peak-to-peak displacement of 5 to 57 Hertz, an acceleration of 2.5 to 57 Hertz, and an acceleration of 2.5 to 2000 Hertz. The processor also has a 30G operating shock and 5% to 95% non-condensing relative humidity.
