The Allen-Bradley 1746-NO4I module is a Programmable logic controller (PLC) analog output module for the SLC 500 product platform. The module is used with the above platform and is compatible with two (2) controller variants, such as modular hardware style fixed hardware.


The module is capable of producing an output current range of 0 to 20 mA and can be used to drive modulation instruments and devices. A typical analog output is a control command connected to a controller. If used with a proportional-integral-differential controller, the analog output is assigned to represent the control output (CO) of the PID controller. For manual loading stations, the analog output represents the manual commands entered by the operator. It can also be used to retransmit important signals to a single or multiple devices. This may be used for indication, data recording, and signal conversion.


Assign the appropriate signal by modifying the module properties. The module is also fitted with an embedded selector switch to allow power supply selection. An internal power supply can be selected, which means that the module will use the power supply from the backplane, while an external power supply means an external power supply with a specification of 24 ±10% and a maximum current of 195 mA.


Allen-Bradley 1746-NO4I is an SLC 500 four (4) channel analog output module that uses a 16-bit 2 complementary binary format. It has 4 current outputs ranging from 0 to +20 mA and a full scale current output of 21 mA. The backplane current consumption of the module is 5 mA at 55 VDC and 24 mA at 195 VDC, while the overrange capacity is 5% (0 to 21 mA and 1 LSB). Its supply voltage rating is 24 volts DC +/ -10%, maximum current is 195 mA, and the backplane is isolated to 500 volts DC. Note that some applications require a 21.6 to 26.4 volt DC power supply when insufficient power is flowing from the SLC supply.


The 1746-NO4I also has an update response time of 512 μs for all parallel channels. The input step response of the module is 5.95 ms at 2%. Its operating temperature is 0 to 60 degrees Celsius; The storage temperature is -40 to 85 degrees Celsius and its non-condensing ambient relative humidity is 5% to 95%. This factory-calibrated output module has an open housing and is only compatible with the 1746 case. There are also LED status indicators in the module. The 1746-NO4I has a load range of 0 to 500 ohms, a maximum load reaction of 100 μH, and a 2-bit converter resolution via the R-14R ladder conversion method. The 1746-NO4I has a maximum overall accuracy drift of +/- 70 ppm/ C for full scale accuracy.


When wiring this module, use a shielded communication cable, such as a Belton 8761 or an equivalent cable of the shortest possible length. For easy wiring, the module is equipped with detachable terminals to simplify wiring and easily change modules.
