PWM开关电源的基本工作原理是﹔交流电220V输入电源经整流滤波是路变成300V直流电压，再由开关功率管控制和高频变压器降压，得到高频矩形波电压，经整流滤波后获得显示器所需要的各种直流输出电压。脉宽调制器是这类开关电源的核心，它能产生频率固定具脉冲宽度可调的驱动信号，控制开关功率管的导通与截止的占空比，用来调节输出电压的高低，从而达到稳压的目的。
