125800-01 AGVs and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) typically require the use of DC motor-based systems for free-roaming, battery-powered operation. Because the kinematics are quite traditional, the actuators on its shaft (unlike its advanced and proprietary software and sensor systems) are quite common in other industrial applications.

125800-01 But there are special requirements: robot actuators that lift the mass consume more power than robot actuators that move the load horizontally, so in other robots (such as Cartesian robots), vertical lift actuators in AGVs and AMRs usually operate at high torque and low speed through high gear heads.

While less efficient than other gear products, the worm gear set here is resistant to reverse drive and therefore helps prevent a sudden load drop during a potential system failure.
